L'Anse Amour
Community Profile
Translated as "Cove of Love", the name is actually a romanticized version of "Anse aux Morts" ("Cove of the Dead"), probably named because of the many lives lost in dramatic shipwrecks nearby. Cove of love is certainly a more apt description for L'Anse Amour. It is a picturesque small community in Forteau Bay. At times, especially when the caplin are "rolling", minke and humpback whales come right in the bay. Watch for the whales or just enjoy the view of the beach from a picnic area that has been built by the Daviss', community residents. The beach and bay also attracted the Maritime Archaic traditonal 1000 of years ago. Nearby the beach, is the L'Anse Amour Burial National Historic Site iwhich commenderates the earliest known human funeral monument in North America, a grave site of a Maritime Archaic adolescent dated some 7500 years ago.
L'Anse Amour is also on route to the Point Amour Lighthouse Provincial Historic Site.
